Therapy is an investment of your time and money. I encourage you to think about your therapeutic experience as an investment in your personal growth and healing, too.
To help make therapy accessible for my clients, I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and offer out-of-network “superbills.”
When you call to schedule your first appointment, I’ll ask you for a copy of your driver’s license and insurance card in order to verify your insurance benefits.
On rare occasions, I receive inaccurate benefit information from the insurance company, so I recommend that you also check to make sure you know your mental health benefits. You can do this by calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking the following questions:
Do I have a deductible I have to reach first?
Is there a copayment for mental health services?
Is there a limit to how many times I can attend therapy?
Even if you do not have Blue Cross Blue Shield, you may still be able to receive a partial reimbursement from your insurance provider by submitting what’s called a “superbill,” which details the dates of sessions and payments you’ve made.
Before utilizing your insurance provider for our therapy sessions, there are some important considerations I like to share with clients:
INSURANCE PARTICIPATION:
Everyone should have access to counseling, with or without a diagnosis. Unfortunately, when working with insurance, I am required to provide you with an official diagnosis and corresponding code. Because I believe that you have a right to participate in your own care, we can work together to determine the appropriate diagnosis to submit to insurance, ensuring that your care is more affordable in the process.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
To work with insurance providers, I am required to share some details about your care, like your diagnosis, corresponding diagnostic code, and the dates of your therapy sessions. However, I fiercely protect my clients’ confidentiality, and your progress notes will remain between us, unless you expressively give other providers permission to access them. You have a right to confidentiality of your care.
EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT:
My treatment options, including EMDR, are evidence-based approaches to trauma therapy. However, insurance companies do have an influence over treatment decisions. They can determine the number of sessions, as well as the frequency. While, I believe treatment decisions should be made between you as the client and me as your therapist, we often have to balance this priority with the importance of making your care accessible by working with insurance providers.
If you prefer not to use your insurance benefits for therapy, I also accept Health Savings Account (HSA) cards, as well as private payment options.
Before our first session, I will discuss all of my rates and fees with you on our brief consultation over the phone, which is completely free!
